All over Europe the middleweight ‘performance roadster’ class is proving to be one of the most popular segments of the market, especially with younger riders. And Triumph’s Speed Four has carved an exclusive niche by being a motorcycle a long way out of the ordinary and able to perform in many environments, from racetrack to city street, to winding back road – perhaps all in one day.

Four is a highly-specified motorcycle. Its engine is a sophisticated 599cc, DOHC, sixteen-valve, liquid-cooled, four-cylinder unit, with cam profiles and EFI system specifically designed to give a broad spread of mid-range torque and driveability. The slick, six-speed gearbox allows maximum use of the engine’s output.
As does the Speed Four’s chassis. The sweet-revving engine is housed in a sharp-handling aluminum frame, which blesses the Speed Four with accurate, razor-sharp steering plus plenty of ground clearance. Fully-adjustable suspension front and rear provides a wide range of set-up options and up front a pair of massively powerful four-piston calipers clamp on 310mm floating discs. The rear wheel features a 220mm disc and lightweight single piston caliper.
The naked, bare-boned style of the Speed Four marks its individuality, unique character and eagerness to stand well clear of the workaday, homogenous masses. From its distinctive pair of chromed headlights and compact instrument cluster nestling behind the saucy little fly screen, to the twin air scoops and tasteful satin black finish on the frame, engine and swingarm, the Speed Four stands out. Paint options are simple –Jet Black, Racing yellow and Tornado Red.
The Speed Four presents a unique proposition – it’s a statement of attitude mixed with a shot of pure adrenaline.
